Our Story
How one man's passion for disc golf and kids created a movement in Arizona.
Founded by "Mr. Eddie"
In 2015, Eddie Diaz — affectionately known as "Mr. Eddie" by the kids — founded Discing4Kids as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in Flagstaff, Arizona. His vision was simple yet powerful: use the accessible, fun sport of disc golf to teach children essential life values.
D4K is dedicated to fostering pro-social behaviors, healthy habits, and essential life values in young people through the fundamentals and principles of disc golf. The program requires only portable baskets and minimal equipment, making it easy to bring the fun directly to kids wherever they are.
Our Mission and Vision
Develop each youth’s pro-social behaviors, healthy habits, and life values through the fundamentals and science of the low-impact sport of Disc Golf. A community that protects our youth and fosters good citizenship and healthy lifestyles for each young person participating in our program.
More Than a Sport
We have a strong track record of promoting academic achievement and physical well-being among students. Our coaches encourage peer mentorship, fostering leadership and confidence among students. We focus on promoting positivity and resilience, equipping students to navigate both good and challenging times effectively.
Our program provides a friendly and organized environment that encourages informal social interaction. It helps kids feel safe and belong, which is crucial for their self-esteem and confidence. Through disc golf, kids can connect and break down social, economic, athletic, stereotypical, and geographic barriers. This allows them to be themselves without fear of judgment, form new bonds, receive guidance, find acceptance, and feel secure.
Our Journey
D4K Founded
Eddie 'Mr. Eddie' Diaz establishes Discing4Kids as a 501(c)(3) non-profit in Flagstaff, Arizona.
School Programs Launch
D4K begins bringing portable disc golf baskets directly into schools, reaching all ten elementary schools in Flagstaff Unified School District.
Year-Round Play
Summer-of-Fun and Discing-in-the-Park events expand access year-round and are the precursors to seasonal league play that brings kids from multiple schools together.
Community Partnerships
D4K deepens its roots in Flagstaff by partnering with local parks, community centers, and local businesses to host celebrations and bring families together beyond the course.
Phoenix Expansion
Networks built in Flagstaff allowed us to expand to Phoenix, bringing disc golf and life values to even more kids across Arizona.
Growing Community
Expansion in the Phoenix Metro area with school districts, Boys & Girls Clubs, Parks & Recreation, City Council, and more to continue fostering long-lasting relationships with kids and families.
